The Vive con Esperanza Declaration
1. Youth Leadership: A Fundamental Right and a Continental Responsibility
We, the people of the Americas, declare that the new generations have the fundamental right to a viable future, which society must guarantee through quality education, connection to the environment, and active participation in disaster risk management. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that young people have the conditions and momentum necessary to understand their surroundings, recognize their potential, and lead the development of their own communities.
2. Transformative Education for a Sustainable Future
A new approach to education must empower young people towards environmental sustainability and resilience, even amidst active disasters, by fostering their rehabilitation and promoting experiential learning. This includes the development of their capacities, the protection of natural resources, and disaster risk management in their territories.
3. Arts, Culture, and Technology: Instruments of Innovation and Identity
The use of emerging technologies, combined with the integration of arts and culture, is key to strengthening the identity of young people and enhancing their ability to develop livelihoods for their families. This connection with their territory raises awareness about nature, its territorial particularities, and associated risks, while driving development opportunities for schools and communities.
4. Intersectoral Coordination: Integrating Capabilities
It is essential to act intersectorally, combining the efforts of governments (integrating national and local authorities from education, culture, environment, health, justice, etc.), businesses, universities, and civil organizations to create coherent, structured, and impactful actions for territorial development.
5. Clear Legal Frameworks and Control of Emerging Threats
Clear legal frameworks are crucial to support the rights of new generations and ensure the effective implementation of mechanisms to control emerging threats, protecting their environmental heritage and ensuring its effective use.
6. Our Shared Commitment
Together with Vive con Esperanza, we reaffirm our dedication to advancing these priorities for the rights of new generations to a viable future. This requires shared commitment, free from political or ideological interests. Such a commitment to the future demands responsible decisions that guarantee a healthy, resilient, and sustainable environment, rejecting any form of instrumentalization of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
